I first discovered Acai when I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu back in 2005. I first tried it at a Jiu Jitsu tournament and I have been hooked ever since. I still haven’t been able to duplicate the exact way the Sambazon guys and gals did, but I’d like to think I come pretty close. Acai berries have become increasingly popular in the past decade. They are known for being high in antioxidants, which can help boost your immune system. Acai “health” products have also been on the rise, including weight loss diet pills and powders. I’m not a huge fan of these products for a variety of reasons. Besides, Acai tastes so good, you might as well enjoy it in its pure form!
There are many Acai companies in the US now, but my favorite has always been Sambazon. Their products are all organic and GMO free, which is a huge plus. You can use the link find their products near you. I usually get mine at Sprouts in San Diego. Here’s a quick “How-To” to make your own Acai Bowls at home!
What You Need:
Acai Smoothie Packs
Organic Apple Juice
1. In a blender, add 2 smoothie packs, apple juice (I use 8 ounces, but if you like it thicker, use less), bananas, 2 tablespoons of honey.
2. Blend on high until smooth.
3. Pour into bowl, top with granola, sliced bananas, and more honey.
You can change this recipe to your liking, for example I triple the amount of honey because that’s the way my husband likes it. You can also add strawberries, blueberries with the blender, but keep in mind this mutes the Acai taste a bit. One other tip, if you want to save time and skip the blender, you can buy Pints of Sorbet, but I prefer the flavors of the Acai packs better.
