Our Disney Side Cars @Home Celebration at The Stronghold Drive-In Theater

Disclosure: I had received a complimentary Disney Side @Home Celebration Kit from Disney Parks and BSM Media. All thoughts are my own.

Last week I had the pleasure of hosting a Disney Side Cars @Home Celebration. I was so excited to learn that I would be a host, and that a box of goodies from Disney Parks and BSM Media would be coming my way. I love party and event planning and I’m going to be honest that I sometimes go overboard on my preparation. I am a Pinterest fanatic around planning time and if you ever poke around my Pinterest profile, you can see some of the awesome ideas I planned to have. Unfortunately morning sickness got the best of me the past month so some of these ideas didn’t get to our Disney Side party, but I decided to do the best I could with what I had. If you haven’t noticed there’s as secondary purpose to this post yet, keep reading, it’s coming!

First, a recap of our Disney Side party! I had planned a Drive-In Theater theme for our party when I found out that we were receiving a Cars package geared towards preschool boys. It was great timing because my kids participate at Awana Clubs at our local church and they also hosted a Drive-In. The kids fashioned cars out of cardboard boxes and were treated to snacks and drinks while watching A Bug’s Life. They had a blast and I knew it would be perfect to do again for our party! We set up our Drive-In in our gym and used a projector for our “big screen.” I was really impressed with how our kids designed (I mean parents) their cars to show their Disney Sides. We had 4 “fan favorites” that included cars inspired by Baymax, Minnie Mouse and Tow Mater.

We had a simple menu of Hot Dogs with Mac n’ Cheese (Disney inspired, of course), popcorn, Mickey waffles and Rainbow Cupcakes for dessert. The kids really enjoyed being served in their cardboard rides while watching Cars with Lightning McQueen and Mater. Our Disney Side @Home Celebration Party Kit came with a lot of essentials such as decorations, tableware, and toys and games. A couple things I was really interested in trying was our Duff Tie Dye cake. The colors came out really pretty and the kids had a kick out of their “rainbow cupcakes.” The kids had also had a blast playing “Pin the Smile on Mickey” and choosing their Disney fortune.

Our Disney Side kit had a lot of amazing stuff and I was pretty surprised at how much goodies we received. There were some things I didn’t get to try at this last Disney Side Party but I plan on using at a future event. Things I was looking forward to but it didn’t come with: Mickey himself and extra supplies for a 3 tiered 3D cake. I am totally kidding but this this leads me to my “lesson of the day,” that sometimes it’s okay to be simple in your celebrations and not going overboard with planning. I used to have a big imagination when it comes to how I want parties and then I would unfortunately get disappointed or upset when things didn’t pan out. This is a huge lesson that can be applied to weddings too! When you have budget or space constraints, this could always put a damper on plans but I encourage you to not let that get you down. I really loved seeing some of my fellow Disney Side hosts get creative with repurposing decorations and making budget desserts look like it cost an arm and a leg! For example, you can have a love and hate relationship with Pinterest. If you have ever seen “Pinterest Fail” photos, you might know what I mean. I always tell my friends to not beat themselves up when their event didn’t look like it came straight out of a Pinterest post. At the end of the day, remember it’s the company you have and the memories that you share that make a fantastic party!

I hope you enjoyed my Disney Side Cars @Home Celebration Drive-In recap and I can’t wait for our next one! Thanks again to all our little Disney Side guests for attending our party. We really had a blast. I would also love to hear from you how you show your Disney Side and your parties. Feel free to leave me a comment below!
