Since True Food Kitchen came to San Diego, it has become one of my favorite restaurants to go to. My kids who have multiple food allergies (more on that later) love it there too, which makes me love it even more. If you’re trying to be more health-conscious when dining out, keep True Food Kitchen at the very top of your list. True Food Kitchen aims to provide diners with food and beverages using whole real food from sustainable resources. The price per entree ranges between $9-$20, and although your bill may be on the pricey side, keep in mind you’re paying for healthy, nutritious food. It’s no shock that eating healthy costs more, but last year a good friend introduced to me the concept of “Pay the farmer now, or pay the doctor later!” In other words, spend the money on eating healthy now rather than paying for medicine down the road.
In the handful of visits I have made to True Food Kitchen, I haven’t had a dish or beverage I didn’t like. Some must-haves are the Carmelized Onion Tart, Grass Fed Bison Burger, Spaghetti Squash Casserole and I always have to finish meal with their Squash Pie. The specialty drinks are something I look forward to as well, my favorites including the Hangover Rx (Coconut Water, Pineapple & Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice), and Kale Aid (Kale, Apple, Cucumber, Celery, Lemon & Ginger). I mentioned above about my kids having multiple food allergies, and one of the main reasons I appreciate True Food Kitchen so much is for their Gluten-Free Organic Tomato & Roasted Kale Pizza. My kids are allergic to wheat, dairy, eggs and nuts, and there aren’t many healthy restaurants that cater to food allergies. While it’s possible for them to eat grilled chicken and veggies or a salad anywhere, it’s great to change it up with pizza, and a really nutritious one at that! Thankfully my kids are pretty good at eating their vegetables, and while some people are still not a big fan of kale, my kids happen to love them.
